7 Days of Pure Mountain Experience!
Combining our love for the mountains and for the arts, the first ever Mountain Culture Summit at artsPlace is an incredible gathering of films, talks, workshops and special guests.
A week of mountain culture-inspired films, talks and workshops is coming to artsPlace soon! Don't miss this incredible gathering of events, August 8-14.
On Thursday, August 8, Adventure Movie Night, presented by SkiUphill, features amazing adventures on film, including Patagonia Films' "Treeline: A Story Written in Rings", Matt Ruta's "South of Summer" (with a brief talk), and Matt Cecill's "Human Powered".
Friday, August 9, is our headlining event - Voices of Fear, presented by MONTAGE, with special guest, extreme skier Kristen Ulmer! Voices of Fear depicts Kristen Ulmer's relationship with fear during her ascendancy as one of the first female big mountain extreme skiers. Watch this thought-provoking documentary, then join Kristen Ulmer in person for an interactive workshop, followed by Q&A.
Saturday, August 10, is full of workshops and delightful surprises. Sign up for an adventure storytelling workshop with expert fibber Wade Graham - "How to Win the Night of Lies" will help you get your story polished up and will perhaps give you an opportunity to tell your tale at the evening Mountain of Laughs event!
This evening of local films, adventure stories, and comedy sketches will surely get you in a good mood! Featuring a film by local filmmaker Andy Arts, an episode from the Frick, I Love Nature series, the best stories from Wade Graham’s "How to Win the Night of Lies" storytelling workshop, and hilarious comedy sketches by Mountain Improv Alliance - this is an unmissable night!
Be sure to pop by artsPlace a little before Mountain of Laughs to enjoy a Climber Clay Pop-Up! This free, drop-in workshop only takes a few minutes to make art from climbing equipment!
After Saturday shenanigans, spend Sunday, August 11, in a relaxing and creative atmosphere during our "Drawing Climbers in Motion" workshop with the very talented Kristen Pauch-Nolin . This course starts in the studio with a live model, then you’ll take your learning into practice at Elevation Place where you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to sketch fast, furious and free, to capture drawings of climbers in motion.
If pottery is more your style, join artist Mia Riley on Tuesday, August 13, for a Climbing Gear Mugs ceramics workshop where you will make your own climbing-themed mug.
Wrapping up the festival, join renowned wildlife photographer John E. Marriott on Wednesday, August 14, to hear about his latest adventures, and get tips for your own photography including easy-to-access locations for getting incredible wildlife shots!
An exhilarating week of mountain-inspired experiences awaits. See you there!
