Pine Tree Players Presents: The Canmore Summer Theater Festival
Canmore’s own theater company, Pine Tree Players, invites you to enjoy theatre in the park. With a beautiful mountain setting that makes for the perfect backdrop, the Canmore Summer Theatre Festival presents two uniquely amazing plays. The first play, The Emperor’s New Clothes, directed by Tyler McClaron, written by Hans Christian Andersen and adapted by Timothy Mason, is running July 15-17 and July 21-24 at 1 p.m. at the Stan Rogers Memorial Stage in Centennial Park. Centered around a fashion-forward emperor and two charming strangers who present what they claim to be the latest thing in fashion. This play features a plethora of budding young talents and with a family-friendly feel, it’s perfect for all ages. The show is 70 minutes with no intermission.
The next play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, directed by Lexi Berry and written by Tom Stoppard, will have showings July 15-17 and July 20-23 at 7 p.m. on the Stan Rogers Stage. The play is a fantastically witty, tragicomic exploration of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from the perspective of Hamlet’s childhood friends: a pair of characters who exist only to deliver a letter, and then lose their heads. Audiences will enjoy the twists and turns of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s journey to discover the cause of Hamlet’s madness and their own purpose in the world. When taken together, the two performances perfectly balance one another out and make for an amazing festival experience.
In its fifth consecutive year, the Canmore Summer Theater Festival’s cast and crew are eager to return to the Stan Rogers Stage after being at the Rec Centre Field last year and online productions in 2020. Whether you’re a lover of theater or simply just looking for a fun outdoor activity to enjoy with family and friends, the Canmore Summer Theater Festival has something for everyone. So, grab your lawn chairs and blankets and get your tickets today!
