Cross Country Skiing is a great way to stay active in the wintertime. Once you hit the trails, you won’t feel the cold! The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park, home of the 1988 Winter Olympics, is an amazing place to get your glide on. It offers more than 65 kilometres of groomed, machine-made and natural trails and all the trails are suitable for both classic and skate techniques. There is a beautiful meadow, with a warming hut, located in the middle of the trail system that is easily accessible for skiers of all levels. The meadow offers spectacular views of Canmore, the Bow Valley and surrounding Rocky Mountains. And, with 6.5 kilometres of illuminated trails, you can try night skiing!

Fact: You will need two (2) passes to spend time at the Canmore Nordic Centre; 1.) the Kananaskis Conservation Pass and; 2.) a day, or season, trail pass from the Nordic Centre.

Trail Sports (located within the Nordic Centre Provincial Park) is a full-service ski shop offering cross-country ski sales and rentals, group and private lessons, equipment repair and ski waxing, guided tours of Canmore Nordic Centre trails, and maps and equipment for winter disc golf and orienteering.

Spring Creek, the heart of Canmore, has completed the area of The Beat where, in winter, you will find their frozen pond perfect for outdoor ice skating. This is a great place to get the kids outside and moving. Skate for a bit and then plan for a treat and a warm drink at The Alder Café.

No matter what season it is, a stroll down Main St. can always offer up something good. Winter time often means more time spent inside enjoying music, drinking warm drinks, and reading good books.

For all you music lovers, Roosters Acoustics is a great place to pop into anytime, as there is often a talented musician picking and strumming and “shopping” the room. Although no longer serving drinks from the Café, Café Books serves up the best of stories from some of the best authors of today and yesterday, local and beyond.

There are single varietal teas, specialty blends, tisanes in loose-leaf and sachets and Luxury Tea collections. At the back of the store, you’ll find the mug wall and a large stock of cards sure to make you giggle your way back to the register.
